Changing the World, One Book at a Time…

My Hope for Just the Way You Are

by | May 14, 2015

Hey Friends,

Today I thought I would blog about why I wrote Just the Way You Are.  It’s a story that was on my heart for a time and I think that there is a specific reason for that.  Almost every little girl loves Disney Princesses.  They are so beloved that they are featured in not only movies but books, toys, and many other venues. The popularity of princesses these days has made many young girls idolize them and look up to them.  Princesses like Cinderella and Snow White have been popular for decades and will no doubt continue to be, but in recent years new princess like Elsa and Tiana have been created. Tiana was created because it was 2009 and little girls who were black and African American did not have a princess that looked like them yet.  Well, it’s 2015 and girls with disabilities still don’t have a princess that they can identify with. I wanted to do something about that.  I can’t create a Disney Princess, but I can write a book so that is what I did.  My hope is that many girls with disabilities will read this book, be able to identify with the protagonist, accept themselves, and live life to the fullest with a disability the way that she eventually does.

Have more questions about why I wrote my book?  List them as comments on this blog and I’ll do my best to answer them :).
